A 24-year-old man indicted Friday is accused of sexually abusing a child younger than 13 in Kettering.

Mitchell Anthony Birchmeier of Kettering is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court for two counts of rape, one count of gross sexual imposition and two counts of attempt to commit gross sexual imposition. All counts involve a child younger than 13, according to court records.

Kettering police opened an investigation after they were called to Dayton Children’s Hospital to speak to a child who was younger than 13 and the child’s parents, said officer Cynthia James, Kettering Police Department public information officer. The child is known to Birchmeier.

Birchmeier is held on $500,000 bail in the Montgomery County Jail.
